Making the future possible
At the HAWK Interaction Design Lab, we research and work in the innovation space of the interdisciplinarity of design, technology and society. We develop prototypes for real living environments to enable a sustainable future for us all.
Idea, innovation and transfer
The Interaction Design Lab is the place where science and practice meet to turn ideas into innovations that have an impact on all areas of society.
Study the future
All this makes the Interaction Design Lab a place where students and lecturers can experiment, research and design together as equals. We emphasise teamwork and encourage individual exploration of the topics of our time:
Physical computing: everything can be a computer, we extend our everyday objects by connecting this ‘hardware’ with software. We also learn how technology works and how it can be used as a design tool.
VR/AR: Virtual and augmented realities are a task of good design. We design the necessary interfaces and mental models to move safely and successfully in these immaterial worlds.
AI: We are researching how generative artificial intelligence is changing and expanding our design, whether as a tool or in the design process.
Sustainability of digital transformation: We develop approaches for environmentally friendly design that is not a detriment but an opportunity for a sustainable future.
Inclusive design: We attach great importance to taking all people with us on the path to the future, whether in our studies or in the living environments that we create in the Interaction Design Lab.
Designing with research
The Interaction Design Lab is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and works with the latest design and research methods in an appreciative environment.
